How Far in Advance Should You Order a Wedding Cake?

How Far in Advance Should You Order a Wedding Cake?

The single most common regret we hear from couples: "I wish I had reached out sooner." Booking a wedding cake is not like ordering takeout — every cake we make is custom, every Saturday on our calendar holds exactly one event, and tasting sessions have to be scheduled around production. Here is exactly how much runway you should give yourself.

The short answer

If you want the quickest version: book your wedding cake 4–8 weeks before your wedding date. For peak season (May through October) or for fully custom multi-tier designs, push that to 3–6 months ahead. Anything inside two weeks becomes a "we will try our best" situation.

This is the industry-wide pattern, not a Not Just Cake quirk. Bakery production capacity is finite, and custom cakes lock down a Saturday the moment you sign.

Why early matters more than you think

  • Calendars fill in clusters. If you are getting married on a popular Saturday (Memorial Day weekend, a fall weekend with great weather), we may already be booked 6+ months out. We physically cannot produce two large weddings on the same day.
  • Tastings are scheduled around production. We do tastings on weekdays so we are not slammed during weekend prep. Booking 2+ months out means you actually get a tasting before deciding flavors.
  • Custom design time. Sugar flowers, hand-painted details, sculpted toppers — all of those take days of focused work that we slot into a quiet period before your week.
  • Ingredient sourcing. Specific food coloring, gold leaf, edible glitter, particular liqueurs for fillings — we order specialty ingredients with lead times of their own.

What if your wedding is closer than that?

It happens — destination wedding moved up, vendor fell through, last-minute decision to add a tier. Call us at (918) 260-2565 and ask. Honestly. We would rather tell you "yes, we can do that" or "no, but here is who else in town does great work" than disappoint you on your day.

For genuine last-minute (under two weeks), we can usually do something — but the design has to be simpler, the size smaller, and the date has to be open. We will not promise something we cannot deliver beautifully.

Booking checklist

  1. Lock your venue and date first. Cake decisions follow venue capacity.
  2. Get a rough guest count. Even ±20 is fine to start; we will refine later.
  3. Gather 3–5 inspiration photos. Pinterest works great. Send them with your inquiry.
  4. Know your color palette or share your florist contact.
  5. Reach out via our contact form. We respond within 24 hours.
  6. Schedule a tasting. Bring your partner. Decide flavors together.
  7. Sign and place a deposit. Your date is locked.
